As a teen, I read and read. I loved reading, like 2+ books a week. My dad drove me and I came home with a stack every visit and couldn't wait to start. Even read by moonlight when my parents were asleep. And they thought I read them quickly! I was moonlighting on them. Lol.
Reading entertained me and opened my eyes to so many things! I read about fashion, mysteries, fiction, travel, romance (age appropriate), biographies (tons of biographies), and lots of how to books. I was encouraged by reading about women with strength, character, purpose and drive. like Amelia Earhart, Juliette Gordon Low. I loved reading Kentucky authors especially Jesse Stuart. Without a doubt not only did reading entertain me, but enriched my personal and educational growth and helped to shape me to who I wanted to be and whom I am. I traveled, learned to crochet, to knit, and to sew and as an adult I learned programming, personal computer skills and I especially learned photography!
For the 2nd year I am happy to sponsor the Garrard County Public Library's Teen Summer Reading program by donating a portrait package for an ambitious teen. Feel free to share this and pass along to any teens you think might be interested!
